As spring approaches here in the Pacific Northwest, hands and bodies get itchy to breakout and get dirty! Mandates for the pandemic are opening up as less people get sick. It’s time to plan a few projects! A few project that where cancelled or postponed come to mind and new plans also are making it to the drawing table. Winter here in the PNW has taught me that, yes, natural building can continue throughout the winter-building systems of earth do not crumble to the ground-even in the rain and snow. True, it is not always pleasant to build in the winter-cold hands, gray days-but it is possible. With that being said, the ChildrensPlay House at the Langley Community Center is half way finished and needs a boost of love from interested parties. Last fall a group of 8th graders helped build a pizza oven right next to the Play House-so there is that fun and tasty aspect to the site that can be taken advantage of! Also in the works is a long awaited pizza oven at the Whidbey Institute! This oven is meant to be put in their medicinal herb and vegetable garden. Please consult this website for upcoming details on workshop possibilities.
A few people have asked me about internships and apprenticeships. Internships have to do with projects that need to be worked on or finished up and involve a stay of a week or more. Apprenticeships are self directed with my mentorship-meaning we structure the learning based on the needs of the learner. Please contact me for more information.
Here’s to a gratifying summer of intense building and learning! Thank you for taking the time to read this blog!
